FileReplicationPro
In one of our projects, we have started to introduce the usage of File Replication Pro for data replication and file synchronization between production and disaster recovery site. For cost purposes, DR and production site are usually deployed and linked over Wide Area Network or WAN (eg. Internet or a small leased line). When we talk about WAN, it is usually associated with limited bandwidth and high latency network compared to Local Area Network or LAN. As such, typical master-slave data/file replication solution such as MySQL replication or DRBD where both solutions requires a high bandwidth and low latency network for them to function effectively.
However, File Replication Pro has proven itself to be very robust and reliable when it comes to data and file replication over WAN, even when the network connectivity between the source and target is of low bandwidth and quality. Besides that, there are many other features in File Replication Pro that made our decision to use it much simpler. Some of the features include bandwidth throttling, filtering by files or folders, batch or scheduled replication, multiple platform support and many more. All-in-all, this is an excellent solution for site backup deployment such as DR or mirror site. We will end the article with an overview of File Replication Pro architecture.
Overview
FRP servers come in two flavors, Replication Servers that perform the data replication work and(only) One central Management Server that provides a focal user interface and communicates with all Replication Servers to exchange job, status and log information for all your servers which may be located anywhere in the world.
Red lines = port 9100 Black lines = port 9200
Data replication is performed as “Jobs” that run on the replication servers and define what, when and how to exchange data between them. You enter the list of servers that participate in your replication network and the jobs you want to run at the Management Server Web Console (any web browser connected to the Management Server will do). You can monitor system activity, status and logs for all servers worldwide from the web console.
